Cladding of existing components is a great method of updating some projects or portions of a project without the expense and mess of a whole tear down. A perfect example of this is elevator upgrading. The doors can typically be replaced with new units fairly easily, however, the door frames can usually be cladded in place with the same material as the doors. This helps to avoid the destruction and repairs to the surrounding materials, which obviously can save a significant amount of work.
Wall panels such as depicted in this escalator photo are another use for cladding. The actual panels are either wood, honeycomb, plastic, or any other substrate which has been cladded with metal to provide a very rigid and rich panel.
